Weekly Question # 5: A question from Teacher Julie from her GreenBucks Blog: “Let’s try to be a little practical and wise and philosophical this week and answer this question:

What lies ahead for me (and my family) during these tough times? Do we know where we are heading?”

Oil is $142.00 per barrel today. We don’t really know what lies ahead in our future, I mean who does? US Consumer confidence is really low right now and that translates to people not buying stuff. When no one buys then companies cannot sell products then they’ll have to cut more jobs. But to put things in perspective, the economy was good only artificially for a long time. People have been spending money that they really didn’t have(more than $900 billion in outstanding card debt), and it’s only now that the credit situation has gotten out of hand. If you are a US consumer and would like to help about the credit card issue, read up on Suze Orman’s thoughts and write to your law makers. Read the rest »

I Dunno Moment »

I thought things were going so well today, but somehow I have to summon every ounce of self control not to burst out crying in frustration. But as I look back, I know I should have found humor instead, oh yeah right! Little K has this sense of timing when I am tired and hungry, she pushes a button that sets me off. I have a level of expectation of her which is purely based on knowing what she is capable of. I mean, come on- we are talking of a little girl who went all green(color code of excellent behavior) in Kindergarten. She was in the bathroom, I thought she was just washing her hands. We were supposed to read the books we borrowed from the library. She comes down with wet hair. Read the rest »

Surviving Mother Nature’s Fury »

Having experienced numerous violent thunder storms and hearing of tornadoes touching down just miles away from us, it makes me wonder if this is the “normal” weather that we are going to have from now on?

We hear of record breaking sightings tornadoes in the midwest. With the States of Iowa and Indiana reeling from the effects caused by record breaking floods, I think of the farmers who have lost their homes, crops and livelihood. I can only hope and pray that they have the strength to rebuild their lives.

Last weekend, I read about typhoon “Frank” in the Philippines in the front page of Fox News and Yahoo, claiming hundreds of lives. My heart goes out to the people who have lost their love ones- whole families at a time. Why was the ferry allowed to travel during a typhoon? What were the decision makers thinking?

While Mother Nature”s weather is totally out of our control, there are situations in which policies on safety or simple commonsense can save lives.
