Controlled Chaos

It’s been awhile since we made an executive decision to leave the work to the professionals instead of mucking around DIY style. It was a big decision for us but it really got down to the fact that we will be selling in the near future. Based on a long research process, it is more beneficial to have a finished basement considering that real estate is at a premium in this area. We live in a town home and with the basement finished it will add the much needed living space. It took sometime to find the right contractor with a good estimate and having the plan approved for permits. Work finally started the basement project last week. Prior to that we have been cleaning/clearing the basement. I never thought how rejuvenating it is to let go of “just-in-case-we-would-need-it-in-the-future” things that we were holding on to but ended up not touching in the last 7 years. Since we are too cheap to spend money on storage($250+), we moved some of the office furniture and equipment from the basement upstairs in the living room and some in the bedrooms. My head was ringing with all the banging last week from the demolition to the framing. Dust managed to escape from the basement even if we have placed a plastic cover on the doorway. Even if I did expect the chaos, I didn’t think of some other things that got me shaking my head such as the delivery of materials. I expected more commonsense from the delivery guy not to drive the big and heavy ATV forklift loaded with lumber through our neighbor’s soggy lawn. I am just thankful that they realized it was a stupid idea before our neighbor’s lawn got all torn up. I know, I know… it’s just temporary. I just hope that the work will be done on schedule.

Ooops! What did the neighbor say about it?

Hope everything will be finished as scheduled.

Have a great week, Tina :)

    Hi Teacher Julie,
It’s a good thing our neighbor wasn’t upset over it but we told them that we will tell the contractor to fix it.
Have a great week to you too.

Goodluck for the chaos. Its temporary anyway. Thing is you’ll have a new, pretty and wider space soon.

“Just-in-case-we-need-it-in-the-future”, we’re having a hard time sorting that out too. I’m the keeper and husband is the complete opposite. Still our things are piling up and would soon engulf us all.
