Shopping and Personal Info Security

Last Wednesday, 11 people has been charged by the US Department of Justice for Global theft and sale of 40 million card numbers. Using high tech complex sophisticated methods, this group of white collar thieves were able to steal more than 40 million credit card and debit card numbers from shoppers at major retailers such as T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. According to the news from Washington Post, the financial information of customers were taken from unsecured(not encrypted) wireless networks used by the retail stores. Being a customer of different retailers, I have been assuming that companies invest resources to secure their client information. I’m sure most us would think so too.
I take Identity Theft very seriously. These thieves take the money, put their victims in deep debt and worst of all destroy the integrity of people’s good names. ID Theft wrecks havoc on lives because everything in this country involves credit worthiness- putting a roof over your head, a car to take you to work even applying for a job! Shopping at a store with unsecured wireless network is only one way of having information stolen, so don’t think that by just paying cash or check would save us from ID Theft. I believe in a credit monitoring service such as lifelock , it simplifies life by watching my credit activities for me. I am informed of any activity on my account. Prevention works! Save yourself from the headache and heartache of having to repair a compromised personal information.
