Surviving Mother Nature’s Fury
By KK on Jun 24, 2008 in Thinker
Having experienced numerous violent thunder storms and hearing of tornadoes touching down just miles away from us, it makes me wonder if this is the “normal” weather that we are going to have from now on?
We hear of record breaking sightings tornadoes in the midwest. With the States of Iowa and Indiana reeling from the effects caused by record breaking floods, I think of the farmers who have lost their homes, crops and livelihood. I can only hope and pray that they have the strength to rebuild their lives.
Last weekend, I read about typhoon “Frank” in the Philippines in the front page of Fox News and Yahoo, claiming hundreds of lives. My heart goes out to the people who have lost their love ones- whole families at a time. Why was the ferry allowed to travel during a typhoon? What were the decision makers thinking?
While Mother Nature”s weather is totally out of our control, there are situations in which policies on safety or simple commonsense can save lives.

I am a little nervous when I hear news about “nature’s fury” these past 7 or so months! I can’t help but ask, “Why?”

Hi Ms. Princess,
From what I can understand, the Earth cools itself with storms. There is no denying that there are places that are alot warmer now compared 10 years ago. Can it be Mother Nature’s response to humans cutting so many trees? Environmentalists scream global warming and some say it’s just a weather pattern that the Earth goes through every 100 years or so. We don’t really know. We live in a living planet. We can only do our part to somehow help in becoming more conscious of our environment. Simple things that we can do to help out. Like buying green products, disposing of our trash properly, planting, etc.
