Airport Security

I can’t help but have to blog about the experience my daughter and I had during our trip from the Philippines on airport security. I believe that there is really a need for tighter security these days due to what happened during 9/11. First was at the NAIA(Philippine Airport), my backpack was requested to be manually searched because I had a nail cutter and tweezer inside which I guess looked very suspicious in the x-ray. I’m glad my tweezer was spared from confiscation! We went through New York’s JFK International Airport for our last leg of our trip to BWI. My tired and very sleepy 6 year old little girl was chosen for a secondary security check-up. I was told that candidates are chosen at random and secondary check-up means to be patted down. I can’t help but scratch my head as I looked on while my daughter was getting checked while 2 armed military officers where called in for back-up. I don’t know what is more tiring, if it’s the non-stop flight or the constant security check for every airplane change and we had a total of 3 plane rides.
Bottled Water story: I brought a bottle of water from home which I had to dispose of when we went through security check at BWI. When we were cleared, I bought another bottle of water inside the airport. When our plane landed in NY, I was told that I can’t bring the bottled water with me when I got to the security check point. I was given another bottled water inside the plane when we landed in HK but it was again taken away at the security check point. While waiting for the plane to take off on the flight to Manila, my nose started bleeding and I was asked if I had enough water during the long flight. Well, how could I if they kept taking my bottled water away!

Interesting bottled water story hehe. Makes me wonder whether all these check-ups and security measures are sponsored by them so we can buy more bottled water :-)

What’s in the bottled water kaya that would make it a security risk?

    Hi Bill,
Yeah it’s easy to think that it’s a conspiracy with the water bottling companies! Well, I think it’s because certain bomb ingredients are liquid. They pretty much limit anything that is in liquid and gel form upto 3 oz only. Ah, this world we live in!
