A Call for Change in SEO Biz

So with Google slashing Page Ranks, professional SEO’s should see this as a sign to change their tune. They can no longer take the easy route of buying links from high PR sites(oh, the politically correct term is online advertising with a follow tag?) or from link farms.  Which is against the terms of service of Google in the first place and it’s only recently that they have implemented it.  They have more work to do now. Since PRs have proven to be a skewed ranking system, advertising online has just gotten more competitive. Companies can just take the easy way route and advertise with Google. But you see with smaller companies, they can’t afford to make high dollar bids for keywords just like the big companies do. So what option do smaller companies have to get an edge on the online marketing? They have to advertise on highly read but affordable publishers which means: us bloggers. Our PRs may have been smashed into smithereens by the Google gods but we still have our readers who confirm that we still do exist in the Internet.

Real advertising online is driving traffic and having people to read the stuff. I’m very surprised looking at my Technorati tag cloud(please see on the lower right hand side) that the advertisement posts are actually read more.

I have seen PR 6 blogs demoted to PR 3, the big thing about it is their livelihood depends on their blogs. I mean these people who actually gave up their day jobs to blog professionally. I don’t depend on my blog for groceries or what-nots but it’s a good way of making money at home and still be able to take care of my family. I am yapping about this not only for my personal benefit as a postie but for all the other small time bloggers who rely on the advertising money from their blogs to augment their family income. I can’t just sit here and say nothing just because my livelihood doesn’t depend on it.

So for people who aren’t really cut out for teaching and elbowing their way around the Internet, keep your day jobs if you have one and for me I guess I have to look at plan B because it will take a while for some people to wake-up and realize that Google PR is no longer a reliable measure of value in the Internet.

    Amen to that, Tina.

I have been reading in some blogs about how this is affecting them, especially those who are thinking about making this a full-time stay at home work. For me, I am here for the ride, if still it continues to be beneficial to me, I say, why not. If it doesn’t well, maybe time to do some other things. And to think I did not accept a six months contract to write web content! Argh! But then again, if doing this would mean more pressure, I might not be able to deliver pa.

    Thanks, Tina :)

    Hi Teacher Julie,
There a people who have succeeded and are enjoying staying home while making a whole lot of money and now don’t give a da_n for their PR because they have advertisers in a waitlist.

Those people are hard core and they actually used spamming as a way to make buzz for their sites.
Online marketing through personal blogs is a very good business model and PPP was the one that showed me the money. It’s all boils down on having content that the masses would want to read.

Hi Tina. I’m saddened by the sudden PR drop and it has decreased my opportunities by more than half. I also hope advertisers will realize that PR is not as credible as it used to be.

    Hi Rach,
I’m sorry to hear that but you are not the only one. Even Yuga of Pinoytech is loosing $1000/month of income by next month due to his PR dropping. I have just lost 98% of opportunities due to my drop too. So I hope the SEOs and companies realize sooner.
