Knights in Shining Armor

If you are a hopeless romantic like me, you would love to go to the Renaissance Festival
“The Maryland Renaissance Festival is a recreation of a 16th century English village. Our village is named Revel Grove, and is set on a beautiful 25-acre wooded site with 85 acres of free parking. The village consists of craft and food booths, five pubs, ten major stages, a Jousting Arena and lots of games.” -The Ren Fest
They open on the weekends between Mid-August to late October. I declare that it’s our family tradition to be at the Ren Fest every Fall since we have been part taking of the merriment for the past six years. I chose it to be my birthday treat every year.
Upon entering the parking area, you can feel the positive energy already. I can’t quite point my figure to it. I guess everyone who goes to the Ren Fest has that inner child in them that comes alive. You can see the crowd is mainly composed of geeks and romantic people. The faces of people have that dreamy-enchanted look on them. Just being there changes your mood. The words that come to mind: light-hearted, merry, happy, fun, enchanting! I would rather be around dreamers anytime!
Always a treat to capture the characters the of Ren Fest on film or disk. Be sure to set your camera on fast action shutter speed!
Noble knights of The Maryland Renaissance Festival, I’m sure most ladies have read romance novels with knights in shining armor, well here’s your chance to see them live(well, when you go of course)! I’m just enthralled with the sight of the knights on the powerful steeds. Beautiful animals! These knights have trained long and hard for this kind of exhibitions.

Ciao Tina,
Reminds me of Gym Khanas back home but with out those gears ah.

Hi Lovelyn,
.
Gym Khanas are really fun to watch too. I will feature Lil K on ponies. I have a collection from her first at 18 month old. Kung sa Pinas pwede, pero dito, di ko ma afford ang rancho
We used to have 5 horses. But after a mare and the pony died, Papa sold the others. There was a pure white one and it was really beautiful. It was alot of hard work for my brother hehehe.

Do you know that these armors are really heavy? I think the ones they use for Renaissance Fest are already lighter fabrications (using aluminum and other lighter metals) of the originals, pero still at least another 50 lbs pa rin? Pang-macho talaga.
Don’t forget about your tag for your true-to-life knight in shining armor!

This is nice….we have a similar one here in Toronto called Medieval Times. Although it is indoors. Outdoors is more fun I think. Plus you can get lots of great photos.
This is exciting. And yes, the knights are hotties too!!! lol

Hi Megamom,
.
I have to go and ask about the armors when we go back. Yes, I think they are still 50lbs. Thanks for reminding me of the tag
Hi Leah,
Yes, we also have the Medieval Times here in Maryland, actually we are only 15 minutes away and we went there once. It’s also good to go, I like the dancing palominos- beautiful horses too. I think we were not allowed to take pictures at the Medieval Times because it can spook the horses, it would have been a nice photo opp.

Wow. Didn’t know that there are festivals like that. Do they also use spears like they do in the movies? Wala bang nagagalit na animal rights group? Paano kung matamaan ang mga kabayo?

Hi Bill,
It’s really cool when I discovered the festivals. My husband has been a big fan of the Ren Fest. Anyone who read the Triology by J.R.R. Tolkien or is a fan of the movies would really be into this kind of thing.
Animal rights groups? No one has been raising hell so far. The ‘knights’ are using wooden spears and swords and they have been doing it for years so I don’t think that it would be dangerous to the horses. We still keep a distance though because those horses are huge!
