The Sexy Filipina part 1

Through the Pinoy Mom’s Network, I have met women like me whom I would want to associate myself with. I respect and consider them as women of substance. The network boasts of highly accomplished Filipina professionals with successful law careers, doctors, IT professionals, writers, artists, business women with MBA’s and stay-at-home-moms who have placed their successful careers on hold so that they can give their full attention to their children. Basically, it’s a network where ideas focused on anything and everything that has to do with parenting the next generation of change makers are exchanged.

A ‘virtual scuffle’ which targeted Sexymom aka Dine Racoma(our parenting section editor in PMN) presented an opportunity to re-invent the Sexy Filipina image. Sexymom co-founded a group whose aim is to revolutionize the image of the sexy Filipina/Pinay online, thus the birth of FilipinaImages.com.

What does the term “sexy” mean to you? And I ask the same question to myself. The use of the term is relative. In this case, allow me to use it regardless of race.

As humans, I believe we are all sexy in nature thanks to the urge to procreate. It’s all part of the whole life cycle here on Earth. 99.9% of living organisms would somehow have to reproduce or they will be threatened to extinction. Without the ability to procreate, without regard to other external factors, any organism is bound to die out.

With the ingenuity of some people, being “sexy” has changed a large part of the business landscape. Some have made a lot of money with products marketed with the fact that sex sells. In American prime time TV, 30 minutes of viewing will give you the urge of buying something to spackle and smear in the hope that it will make you as sexy as the actresses appear on the screen. Mascara for longer lashes, industrial strength lipstick that lasts a whole day, underwear worn with angel wings, not to mention tire commercials which try hard to make tires look sexy.

There are even shows espousing the idea that it’s natural to sleep around. Let us not forget the shows which promote making breasts bigger and more defined, the nose sharper, collagen injection to accomplish the Angelina Jolie look–alike lips and liposuction for the belly-jelly challenged population. I can go on, listing down ways to make seemingly imperfect bodies sculpted and cooked(tanning) to perfection. All these to achieve one goal: to look what is perceived as hot and sexy.

to be continued after a few words from my sponsors.
