Lil K’s Birthday 2007
By KK on Oct 14, 2007 in green momma, Featured, Annapolis, Maryland, Mommy Files
Last year my daughter requested to have her 6th birthday party at our favorite park in Maryland: Quiet Water’s Park.
We granted her request and I was hoping to reserve a pavilion nearest the restrooms but 5 months before her birthday, I found out that my choice of pavilion has already been reserved! I have to reserve a year in advance then!
I liked the idea of having it outdoors, it’s beautiful during this time of the year. It’s weather perfection! Sunny, low humidity and the temperatures are in the 70’s. It’s also to encourage our friends to enjoy the outdoors at the beautiful park.
We invited Lil K’s classmates from pre-K and some of her friends she met at school. Next year we have to invite more people because half of the invited people had previous engagements already. I sent out the invites a month from the party. It’s like this in America, people are very busy. In the Philippines, just let the word out about the party a week before and expect a whole crowd.
The park had regulations about the party decorations which meant no balloons, so we had to come up with something creative. I forgot to take pictures. I just used the wrapping tissues in green and purple colors in tall “vases” on the tables. Of course I had to use the purple mums too!
We served both Filipino and American food. The requested pancit(noodles) and Shanghai lumpia as usual was served. I also made baked macaroni. My hubby fried some chicken tenders and grilled hot dogs. I was surprised that the pancit and lumpia was the most sought after. Our guests appreciated the dish with the patis(fish sauce)! Of course I was so flattered with the compliments on the food from my native country. It seems like I was prepping the whole week. The parents were commenting that it’s such a big spread for a 6th year old birthday party and I said that it’s how birthdays are celebrated where I come from, we think of the parent’s tummys. It’s actually a more conservative spread because I went easy on the carbs or fillers. I tried to do a balanced menu and loaded up the pancit with vegetables(sweet peas, green beans, carrots, celery).
Somehow we were able to pull off a fun party for Lil K. I was planning more games but I realized that I was dealing with a whole bunch of toddlers. The children had fun with the breaking the pot.
Lil K’s guests were very generous! I wasn’t expecting such wonderful gifts, their presence at the party was enough for me! She received a Kikay case complete with make-up from her grandma Connie from South Carolina earlier in the week. A Leap Frog learning system from my friend who is from Uganda and her kids. Webster(I still have to look into it) from her God father. I am enjoying the build your own beads set with Lil K. She had other more goodies from her friends. My hubby and I thought it’s time for her to have her bicycle and a rocket set.
My cousin and his family were able to come the last minute, they were going to a party too but it was re-scheduled for Sunday. It was really good to see them again. At the end of the day, we packed up and went home.
That’s all for now folks! I’ll have to ask for the pictures from our friend. We were too busy playing host to take any videos or more photos.
I received a lovely email from one of the dad’s: “Thank you so much for inviting Ben, Eric, and Jack to the birthday party. You have a special treasure in your daughter and it was great to see her exuberance about the event and people that came. I wish my boy’s had half the charisma she does. Also, the food was the best I’ve ever seen for a kids birthday party. You did well and I just wanted to offer a special thanks for letting me sample some of the islands cooking and tradition.” JM
I think he will be on the invites list again next year

Wow, Little K must have been overwhelmed by all those lovely presents. I always enjoy watching kids open presents because you could easily read the excitement and delight in their faces.
BTW, you have an award waiting on my blog.

Hi Tina,
That LeapPad present Lil K got is a good one. My son learned how to read on his own with that LeapFrog without me nagging Ba,be,bi,bo,bu…Just continue buying the notebooks. Lukie is in to Math(Grade 1) now with the Sponge Bob characters.
Lil K, you sure had fun, didn’t you?

Hi Jmom,
Thanks. You’re coming from Duke? Wowee! I eat a heavy meal before going to “typical” American parties so that I don’t go on a carb low.
Hi Lovelyn,
We are going to buy the notebooks since she memorized the one that came with it already. It’s great to know that Lukie is a reader and math-wiz to be.
Hi Ate Belle,
I hope to share my pancit with you too.
Pancit power!
Hi Mary,
That’s what she was doing. She was getting the tiny stuff inside the big bag.
Hi Bigger K,
and a 3 tier cake!
Proud mommy! Her smiles are worth our efforts. Although she didn’t get everything she asked for. She wanted me to tell the parents to dress their sons in black(tux) and the girls in ballroom dresses. She wanted to have ballroom dancing with live orchestra

Belated happy birthday, Lil K!

Hi Teacher Julie,
Kulang pa nga yan, I didn’t invite my friends from New Jersey who are from India because I couldn’t host them at home. I’ll have too much in my plate and end up not enjoying the party. The priority this year were the little kids because Lil K was complaining last year that there wasn’t much kids!
Yes, I try to be an Ambassador of Peace.
