Working from Home Opportunities

I have been looking around for work at home opportunities for sometime in the past when we decided it’s best that I stayed home with my daughter. I also had severe vertigo problems which made my peripheral vision very poor that I feared of driving on the high speed multi-lane highways. I have been very disappointed that I have only found people who are working from home trying to make money out of unsuspecting work-from-home-wanna-be’s. Most of the time it’s selling books and CD’s how to make money, stuffing envelops, there is someone charging you for an initial package, some want you to pay administrative costs on taking you on(cheapo BS), mystery shopping, of course their’s the MLMs that want you to buy stuff so you can start and the list just goes on and on. As a person looking for work, I should not be paying someone to hire me. I never did that in the past and I never will. It doesn’t make any sense but you’d be surprised how many people fall for it.

I have found legitimate work-from-home opportunities:

  • Medical transcriptionist: I don’t have a medical background and I hate encoding! I only type what I have in my mind. I would only end up with a serious Carpal Tunnel Syndrome(CTS) for nothing.
  • Problogging at different networks, but I found it doesn’t pay that well considering having to post 7 posts per week for $200. Maybe if I was somewhere else rather than in the high cost of living area near Metro DC, I can take it but it takes me 2 hours to make a well researched and edited post which only gives me an average of $7.14 for 2 hours worth of work. Minus the taxes, oh yes it’s taxed income! For that much work, it wasn’t worth it. I also don’t like the pressure of having to make those posts even if I don’t feel like it.
    • If you are interested:  b5media.com, bloggerjobs.biz, I’ll add more later.  I know of someone who quit her day job and moved  back to the province and just made blogging her primary job.
  • Being a day trader: I don’t have $25,000 hard cold cash to start.
  • Call girl, I mean customer care person. I found one that seems to be legit: Alpine Access Customer Call Center. They only problem is Maryland is not included in their list of states due to some tax law.
  • Selling on Ebay- I bought, framed and sold paintings. After I found out that my shipment of frames can get stuck and impounded then be charged $500/day if it get’s lost, I had to suspend doing that until I can figure out shipping puzzle. I can’t afford that much risk. I was able to get 1 shipment through and I still have frames and paintings. The challenge is for me to let go of the paintings. I buy paintings that I would want to hang on my own walls and I get emotionally attached to them because they are beautiful. If I decided to keep all the paintings, what’s the point of having a business? I am not giving up Ebay since I have a 100% rating and 50+ stars but I have to find a sustainable product.
  • Sponsored Posts - it’s getting better everyday. :) For just more than a month, I am halfway towards buying a Macbook already.
  • Start your own Business- I am learning during my “free” time. You should too. Read my post about it. Even if you are from a different country, you can still learn alot from it and the best part is: it’s free!
  • If I learn other opportunities, I will surely blog about them.

Hi!!My best suggestion is to find an employer that would allow you to work at home. Many companies would allow this kind of arrangements now. There is also, the so-called part-time/fulltime deal..work 32 hours in a week and still considered full time.By doing this you would be able to invest on a deferred 401k-retirement plan and contribute to your social security.I pray that your application with the IRS will be processed soon. You will be a good potential employee.

    Hi Auntie Mila,
Thanks for your suggestions. 32 hours for a full time? Wow! I would like to find something like that but I know most employers who allow work from home want the employee to have been working for them for a long time with them. Most of the people I know who work from home are sales people or they have their own business.

Hmm, maybe I will grab that blogging at $200/month. Iyon ang mabuti sa Pinas, kasi if you convert that to pesos, medyo malaki na rin for 7 posts per week. But it would be very if 7 posts per day ang requirement :-)
