A Taste of Southern Comfort part 3 of 3

From part 2.
The next morning, my husband and I took a walk to the river before breakfast. It’s a good 15 minutes walk from the house to the river through a paved dirt road(more like sand road). The scenery was like what I have seen only in the movies when I was growing up. Dew on the green grass blades made everything look so fresh at the wide meadow. It was quiet until we reached the stables, country music faintly heard from the background. I didn’t know horses listen to music. I guess it’s for security reasons. The husband from couple who co-owns the property runs a security alarm business, so might be one of those “trick-the-crook” things. They are pretending that someone is with the horses. Someone ‘borrowed’ the deer stand without permission and left a trail of corn along the way. There was a rooster and a few hens were having their breakfast as a inquisitive cat takes it’s time checking us out. Oh, I love country life! About 15 yards into the river bank, we were chased away by huge deer flies! So we had to get out fast without seeing the mouth of the river. It’s pretty fascinating to watch the current work it’s whirls when we did see it the other time.
We made our way back to the farmhouse and after an extend breakfast, it was time to pack up and go. We could have stayed longer but we had a parents-teacher conference the next day. After saying our goodbyes, we hit the road for our long trek back.

A cup cake from Starbucks. I would like to re-create it soon. I still have the book from the library “Death by Chocolate”
Drive back to urbanity took longer than driving away. We had a pit stop for Cracker Barrel, Starbucks and gas. There were torrential rains that caused several accidents along the way. We had to ride in silence as the visibility was so poor that my husband had to concentrate more. Flow of traffic even slowed to a crawl as we approached Washington DC as there was a graffiti on one of the exits signs. I guess that’s our welcome back banner to urban living.
Can you just imagine the possibility of what these ingenious people can do if the just did something productive? I mean, it takes creativity to do the graffiti on the high exit sign. Did they climb the posts and suspend themselves to spray paint?
Overall, it was a wonderful trip of family, food and fun! If only IT jobs were available back at South Carolina, it would be great to dream about moving there. Why? Because their beach water is warmer! Then daughters can have their playdates. And the taxes are so much lower down there.

Hi, Tina!
That was quite an adventure. I love those kind of environment, too! It’s getting rare here in the Philippines, I think. I mean, you need to go farther just to see unpolluted rivers, lush green, etc.
You document the travel well with those excellent photographs. I love reading your blog..

Tina, the traffic slowed as we were driving back to VA too and it was because of the same thing! The graffiti was so bad! I hope they catch the perpetrators soon!
Just what we need - more calories! LOL
Glad you had a great vacation. Nice pics! DO share your recipe for that yummy cupcake when you get a chance, will you?

Hi Dodong,
Thanks for the compliments. Coming from you, a more ’senior’ photographer, I’m flattered! I’ve seen how rural areas are shrinking there.
Hi Mary,
It’s great to hear you are home safe! I’ll go to your blog soon. I will try to bake the cupcakes soon.
Hi Rowena, Thanks for doing the taggie. I know how it’s like, moms are busy people. Thanks for the compliments.

Wonderful farm pics. Ah,makes me want to pursue further my career over there..Sigh.
It was quite bad, to say the say the least, of those people to be able to make that graffiti up there!
Thanks for sharing your photos and adventures. Take care!

i love that kind of life, too, that is why i gave up living in the city and chose to live up in the mountains.
i remember when we visited VA several years back, we had to drive in such condition, too, from the Dallas airport.

Hi Julie,
!
Thanks you. It’ll be a great adventure when you come over here
Hi Ate Marie,
If you like peace and quiet, the country is the place to be.
Hi Ate Belle,
You are so wise in going up the mountains. Unfortunately for us, right now the jobs are here in this part of Maryland.
