The Face Behind the Blog
By KK on Aug 2, 2007 in Soul Searcher, Thinker
I was scratching my head when I received this tag from Raquel because out of hundreds of pictures in the last 6 years, I have a few decent photos. Not that most of them are indecent
but it’s because I would rather go behind the camera than in front of it.
On the left is my self-portrait with my Red Pirates shirt(that’s another post) on.
Anyhow, this tag is giving me a license to be narcissistic. I believe that I have mentioned many of my quirks in the about page and this blog but if incase that I have forgotten about them, they would be blog material in the future. My life has been revolving around my family(husband, daughter and dog) and keep constant communication with my father and siblings. I also said that this blog started as a therapy because as a SAHM, my interaction with people is quite limited(which is subconsciously by choice) as compared to when I was single and working. Did the therapy work? Heck yeah! I also became better in expressing my thoughts. Never had a diary when I was young and I fell asleep in my English subjects but surprisingly excelled in technical writing, public speaking and debate(because the teachers were awesome). I loved my science subjects especially Biology. Now that I think about it, I should have paid equal attention during English class. It’s just that back then I was already very good at delegating tasks to my older sister who writes very well.
At first, I saw it quite redundant to recap and reword things in this blog because basically everything here is about how I look at things from my angle. What is different in this post is that the camera is turned towards me rather than pointing outwards. I’m a pretty private person but I want to reach out to the world from my own little corner. Sometimes I’m mistaken to be aloof but it’s just that I have a slow time warming up to strangers. It’s alot easier to read blogs and find out what this person or that person is all about rather than to go to mommy clubs around here. I find it exhausting to deal with being overly conscious of being politically correct come chit-chat time. I also find it difficult to relate with people who can’t seem to know reality in a global basis. Most of my long time friends are from school or work. Through blogging, I have met women of substance from all over the world.
I left my pre-US photos at my parent’s house, I meant to bring them with me the last year but the busy schedule made me forget to pack them. I was able grab this from my website that I made last 1997. I showed it to my daughter today and she said that she didn’t realize that I was once a toddler too. People used to mistake me for a Japanese for my chinky eyes.

The photo above was taken for our college graduation picture 10 years ago, we were still in the middle of defending our Thesis from a crazy Dean-OIC so I wasn’t too cheerful to have my picture taken. He was trying to prove a point and that is: he is smarter than everybody. Indeed he had the IQ but he lacked EQ. The next year Dean-OIC was demoted.
This is me now. Motherhood changed me in alot of ways. I used to be self-conscious thanks to my cousins who teased me so much. What I like about it here in the US, I no longer have the biggest boobs in town and can go around wearing sleeveless. This is my summer color, I’m unapologetic of my Filipina tan. Yeah, I know I need to get on the exercise machine. I did say I love healthy food, I didn’t say I love to exercise. I lost 7 lbs since New Year and that should count as an improvement. I am happy to be myself and I continue to evolve into a better human being.
With that I shall see you next post as I leave you with a quote that I recently found: “Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance.”
–Sam Brown
This is a getting to know you more tag from: Raqgold. A SAHM with two lovely daughters. She has a very analytical way of blogging which I like: Home Worked. She shares my belief in eating heathly fresh fruits and vegetables from farmer’s markets. Good to know you more Raquel.
I’m tagging: Teacher Julie, Lovelyn, Liza, Rachel, Rowena, Francescainfrance

OMG Tina! I personally like this entry. Not that I’m tagged
but with this, I came to know more about “TINA”…Its like breaking down barriers of indifference - loosening up from being too up tight hehehe…Indeed, blogging is therapeutic.
I really like your pictures, specially that smile of the little girl with 2 red ribbons. Keep on smiling like that baby hehehe!

Hi Lovelyn,
I’m too uptight?! Hehehe. It’s good to look at it and say, darn I was a cute toddler once. I’ll try too loosen up a bit for you

Hi Tina. Thank you for the tag. Raquel tagged me too and I appreciate your tag as well. I’m still working on mine. I will let you know as soon as I’m done.
I enjoyed reading this entry. Thanks for sharing your photos. I love your chinky eyes and you’re right, you would have been easily mistaken as a young Japanese girl.
I like your college grad pic. You look very confident and ready to take on the world after college.
It’s nice to know that blogging was a very useful therapy for you. I’m sure it paved way to meeting lots of friends from different parts of the world. It’s exciting and very rewarding.
Thanks for sharing and looking forward to sharing more about myself too.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for seeing the grad pic as “confident” rather than something else. When it was taken, I didn’t know if I was going to march for the ceremony because of the darn thesis. Thanks for taking the time to do the taggie.

My, the grad photo. You look “taray”! Yes, you did look like a Japanese. Actually you still do look like one a bit.
I enjoyed reading your post. Hope I would be able to do mine ASAP. I’m thinking about the photo already. Hmmm…not sure if I have one photo that I would like, sana meron

my, taray ng grad pix. i didn’t dare to post mine, di ako mukhang tao dun e hehehe.. it was taken at the same time, thesis time with the dean.. and yes, i hated the dean too.. nakakatuwa naman si little K, so now she knows that you were a toddler too hehe..

Hi Analyse,
Double dare. Ang daya mo ha, I posted my present pic kahit tabaching-ching. Sige na post mo na! Yung dean-OIC kasi hindi niya kami alaga, the real dean was offered something she can’t refuse in another country. She was a topnotcher(Chemical Eng’g) at the board exams during her time and became the person who established the college of IT in our university.
