Going Pure Verizon Fiber Optics Soon
By KK on Jul 20, 2007 in Tech Stuff, Homemaker, Thinker
Last year we had this big reel of orange cable in our front steps. It gave us so much excitement! Yes, I know we are easy to please. We were even so forgiving for the noise and the damage to our front lawn. Verizon was in our neighborhood installing their fiber optics cable. At the same time we were having so much trouble with our cable company because their digital broadband service was always down. We tolerated them long enough and it was getting to me to be calling the customer support everytime only to be told to reset the router even after I’ve told them I’ve already done that three times before I called and then realize that it’s a problem only to be resolved by a technician outside of our home network. Believe me, I have been extra nice because I know how it’s like being on the other side of the line. I guess that’s what happens if they have a script to read and not rely on common sense. We then switched to Verizon DSL for our Internet service and it has been outstanding. We are content with the DSL Internet service, speed and availability wise but our cable company is in the works to sell to a much larger company and tried to be sneaky increasing our rates. We retained our TV service with the cable company only because we didn’t want to put a satellite on the brand new roof. Verizon had a package deal at the time and was offering Direct TV for alot less. Anyway, this time Verizon FIOS TV is also being offered. So for the package of TV, Internet and phone through fiber optics it’s going to cost us $70 less than what we are paying now. It’s good for 2 years, who knows how much Verizon will bump it up but for now we are going fiber.
We are going to get 5 mbps down/2mbps up with fiber. I am so excited to hop on! We are set for early August installation.
Note: According to my speed test we are at 2864kbps up/679kbps down as of now.

Hi Lovelyn,
Thanks for feeling happy for me. I’m more excited to save $1,680 in to years. Our electricity rates went up 50% you see, and that’s where it’ll go.

Hi Ate Girlie,
you’re paying for dsl then you should get dsl connnection speed all the time. The problem is that the dsl business there is monopolized by one big telco unlike over here different companies compete against each other and continuously improve their services so that their customers don’t leave.
