Story Behind the Name

Glam girl Ate Marie tagged me two weeks ago about the meaning of my child’s name. For the life of me, I didn’t know the meaning of my daughter’s name before deciding to give it to her. It may sound strange but it was her who picked her name.

I watched the movie “Catherine the Great” starring Catherine-Zeta Jones on TV one night. I was so impressed with the Empress who ruled Russia. She was a very skillful politician who had an unwavering will and character that made her reign last for 34 long years. Ruling Russia was no easy feat for anyone much less a lady during her time.

I was dating my husband back then and I told him that when I will have a daughter I will name her after Catherine the Great. A prophetic declaration. As if my little one willed herself to be here on Earth right then and there. Oh does she have the strength of will and character, she lives up to her namesake. At 5 years and 7 moons, cunning negotiator she has become. I have to watch out for what I say, she does and will use my own words against me.

She asserts herself well and for that alone, I am grateful.
