Flash Back: Philippines Trip 2006 part 3

After another sleepless night(too excited): Party Time!

The next day was the luncheon with my maternal side clan. One of my aunts(mom’s sister) was nice enough to take some time off from her very busy schedule to organize a pot-luck get-together lunch at my Lola’s place. She and her husband shuttles Baguio to Manila. We had lechon, pinakbet, inihaw na bangus, fruits, ginantang halo-halo, etc. We had tons of fun with parlor games and the kids were able to show-off their dance moves. My husband and I prepared goodie bags(candies) and shared them with the kids. It was great to see everyone. Family, Food, Fun, Games, need I say more? Oh yeah, I also realized este became so evident that I am old! My cousins whom I remember as babies are now college grads! My husband was digging the authentic lechon with San Miguel Beer. Little K was overwhelmed when she realized she was related with all the kids but she was a trooper and joined every parlor game.

To Lola’s place we go :)

Fast foward to present: We have 2 main clan reunions Christmas day and my late Lolo’s Birthday. Today is my Lolo’s birthday, even if my he has gone to heaven my Lola insists on celebrating his birthday by reserving a pig specially picked for the occassion. In short, they are partying now as I write.

It’s very important to me to that my daughter cherishes her Filipino roots. I definitely want her to adopt the positive values.

Note to self: I have to make a separate entry for Lola.

Great photos! It’s wonderful that everyone had a great time. It’s always nice to spend time with the family. Sharing good food, exchanging stories, watching kids perform and simply enjoying the comfort and joy that loved ones bring. Thanks for sharing.

from 2003 up to this time–madami ka na sigurong hindi alam about lechon. there was a feature on TV, and i was surprised there were so many varieties of lechon. there are even some shops who export them, kaya, even filipinos abroad can now eat our local lechon.

    _______
    Hi Sexy Mom,
I like the classic style lechon. They export them, wow! I didn’t know that. I’ll look into it once my hubby’s cholesterol gets down to normal.

great family gathering! i love the way your hubby put his arm around lola.

who is the littlest girl in green? parang kambal ng anak mo.
    __________

    Hi Ate Belle,
Oh no that’s my little Sis in the blue dress! I’m the one taking the picture ;). She is really petite and young looking, she is 26 yrs old.

Lola and hubby understand each other even if Lola doesn’t speak English. Lola’s number 1 bilin to my hubby: “Don’t beat up my Apo.”

The little girl in green is my neice. I bought my daughter and neice the same outfit. Apple green is my late mom’s favorite color.

That was one big lechon! That much Lola loved Lolo… How many days did it take you to eat it all up?
    _____________
    Hi Ate Lisa,
My pic is on the ‘about’ page so it’s no secret ;) . Yes, that’s Papa on the extreme right.
The pig was really big. They reserved a good portion for my father side so we ended up eating the lechon for a few days.

    _________
    Hi Ate Girlie,
I can’t recall the music but alot of the songs I didn’t think was appropriate for their age.

Her reaction: Wow! Crispy skin! She knows golden skin is good from peking ducks.

    Hi Tina,

It is very nice to read how you have spent your Mother’s Day! You definitely are a wife and mother now. When I think back how a career girl you were, it is very surprising how things turned out to be. I was suppose to be the home maker material or so I thought. Now, I’m 34, single and no prospective man in the horizon with a career that seems to head off on the direction it wants to go. Well, for one thing I still feel that in little ways, I have also been a mother and I hope it was a positive thing for all of us.

I love reading your stories when you visited the Philippines last. As people say, we come to appreciate the things we have only when we don’t have them anymore. I can say that I do miss the fruits in the market when I see rotten bananas being sold for 3 USD for half dozen in the local market here.

All in all, life is still beautiful!

    __________
    Hi Manang Badette,
So you are reading my blog ;) . Thank you for dropping by. Yeah, yeah I’m so domesticated. harharhar
My being the career girl feels like it was a different lifetime. But you never know I might re-invent myself to going back to work- I miss making moolah. hehehe
You have acheived what seems to have been so impossible when we were young. 3 USD for 1/2 a dozen? Wow! It’s more expensive than here. For organic bananas, we get them 38 cents a pound here.
    Love yah!
