Growing Vocabulary et al…
By KK on Mar 18, 2007 in Darnest Things My Kid Says
Our friend Alex almost fell off his chair the other night after he heard Little K say: “I think C is a little bit apprehensive because he sees the syringe.” (C, our dog needs some medication for his intestinal issues. Little K is into big words now- gargantuan, paleontologist, trilobites, Ornithiscian to name a few.)
I was tucking Little K in bed…
Little K: Mom, how do you say bedroom in your language?
Me : Hmmm, kwarto. It’s actually a borrowed word from Spanish.
Little K: Did you return it?
(we always tell her that when she borrows something she has to return it.)
Little K has been asking us the meaning of alot of words, sometimes I feel the need to have a dictionary around my neck.
I have been meaning to organize our pictures, my 6 year old laptop is too slow for high graphics activity and using the desktop meant going to the basement. The basement is a work in progress and the heat is yet to be installed. So even if I planned to do the organizing during the winter, I didn’t want to freeze(excuses, excuses, excuses….). Got to do it soon as we look forward to taking more photos. I’ve been digging past spring pictures, this is one of my favorite shots. What’s so special about these tulips is: we planted them with our own hands and I have more pictures of other flowers of our past 6 years, geeze I didn’t realize how fast years went by. I have yet to blog about my experience playing with dirt(gardening). So expect more pictures. I have yet to post about our Philippines 2006 trip(Baguio and Boracay!) So much to blog so little time. I have to sacrifice some sleep if I want to get things done.

Little K’s growing vocabulary is remarkable. It’s really amazing how kids learn new and harder words each day.
Thanks for sharing your amuzing conversations with Little K. It’s cute how she asked you if you were going to ‘return’ the borrowed word.
I’m also inspired to continue journalizing Yohan’s conversations and hope that someday he will enjoy reading them.
I used to say the expression, “excuses, excuses” so reading it now made me smile.
Looking forward to those photos.
Take care!

I think little ones are just like sponges at this stage. I’m sure your Yohan will feel good that you are journalizing your conversations with him.

Hi Sexymom,
What’s great about it is we don’t push it on her. She is the one who wants to learn and we simply have to quench her thirst of knowledge.
Hi Princess,
Yep, it’s that time of the year that everyone springs back to life.

so did you return it? hehe.
it’s funny because i have a load of pictures of all the flowers in our garden too.. and since we just planted some more, i already have some pictures queueing up to be uploaded.

Hi Analyse,
I don’t think we Filipinos have ever returned the borrowed words :).
I’ll blog about the delay of uploading of pictures.

What a smart kid! I agree, children are like sponges that absorb anything and everything they encounter. I’m trying to teach English to my little ‘un too, but I don’t want to push her too much - she already has Japanese and Tagalog to work with. But oh boy, she picks up a lot of English words from the cartoons she watches on tv.

Galing ng baby mo. Genius in the making ata. And she looks really pretty (from pix in previous post).
Enjoy the springy weather…Isn’t it great to finally see the sun and actually feel it?

Hi Kathy,
Wow, your little one can speak Japanese and Tagalog. Great job! I raised Little K speaking English, I have just started with the Filipino. Yeah, I know I’m bad but when she started talking she asks why all the time and I can’t explain it in Filipino. Try explaining “The blood cells carry oxygen to your different parts of your body” in Filipino. Her favorite Filipino word: Lechon!
Hi Justice,
Great to have you here. I got trumped with that kwarto word. hehhe
Hi Leah,
Genuis? Nah! She’s just a normal child. Just expose kids to different things and they’ll pick it up like sponge. It’s so warm(60’s ), I don’t know how to act.

Hi Ate Amy,
Bisosus, bisous to you too. Thanks for dropping by.
She’s actually alot smarter than mama but don’t tell her that ;). The pics, they are stuck with my laptop- my monitor is making frying sounds and had to shut it down. I’m still thinking of ways of fixing it. No joke.
